The Sephora Beauty Insider Appreciation Event 2018 starts tomorrow August 24, 2018 for Rouge members. See the end of the post for more info on the event.

Here’s some tips for shopping the sale:

  • I would focus on items that are exclusive to Sephora because, let’s be honest, we can get better discounts or rewards purchasing some brands from other retailers or from the brand’s own website. Those brands include: Kat Von D, Bite Beauty, Drunk Elephant, Fenty Beauty, Sephora Favorites, Sephora Collection, Hourglass Cosmetics, Fresh Beauty, etc. Also look for brands that are usually excluded from other retailers offers.
  • Check upcoming sales to see if any of the products you want to purchase will be on sale soon at another retailer.  Check out my ULTA 21 Days of Beauty post to see what will be included in their 50% off offers.
  • Since you can only use the code this year ONE TIME online, look for online exclusives or VIB/Rouge exclusives to purchase online.  Those can be found here. Plan to make the rest of your purchases in store where the discount can be used as many times as you’d like.
  • Apply the discount to items already on sale to maximize your discount.  Complete list of sale items found here.
  • Look for value sets such as the Sephora Favorites which offer a large value of items for a smaller price. Adding the discount on top just makes the sets better.

Personal Recommendations

These are the products I have used from Drunk Elephant. I think these are worth the money and highly recommend them.  For reference, I have sensitive, acne prone, combination skin. Using these products, my skin felt healthy and nourished without breakouts or irritation (note: you can only purchase 3 Drunk Elephant products per transaction).

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream $68

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream $60

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum $52

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil $40-$72

I’ve recently fallen in love with the Fresh Black Tea line and rediscovered my love for their cleanser.  After I use up all my cleansers (how many years will that take??) I plan to only purchase the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser $15-$42. My skin is happy and calm using this. Using the Black Tea products, I notice visible improvement in my skin after using them. And they are now available in minis!

Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask $35-$92

Fresh Black Tea Instant Hydrating Face Mask $35-$92

Fresh Age-Delay Beauty Must-Haves $28

I haven’t tried much from Fenty Beauty. The foundation doesn’t work for me, but I have discovered that I love the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters! I have Hu$tla Baby from the Bomb Baby set. I’ve put quite a dent in it this summer. I love the color of the Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in the shade Freckle Fiesta.  It’s the perfect fall orange.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick $18

Fenty Beauty Two Lil Mattemoiselles $19

Fenty Beauty Bomb Baby Mini Lip and Face set $23

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter $34 (I’d go for the duos to get more shades for your money)

I have a palette that has an ambient lighting powder, blush and bronzer in it that I purchase from a past Nordstrom Anniversary sale.  I’ve been using it all summer and I’ve barely made a dent in it! These powders are beautiful, look natural on the skin, not makeup-y and are a great investment because they are lasting me a long time.  I would repurchase these in the future.  The full size products are a better value, but I am not anti mini size. Some times you don’t want to invest the money into a full size you won’t use up and minis are perfect for that.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder $22-$46

Hourglass Lighting Blush Collection $24-$38

Hourglass Lighting Bronzer $24-$50

Sephora Collection has some great underrated products.  I love the variety of shades and formulas offered in the Lipstories Collection and check out the price! These remind me of the NARS lipsticks which are more than 3 times the prices.  The foot mask has become an essential for me. Tip: the foot mask works much better if you have use a foot peel, then use the mask to maintain results.

Sephora Collection #Lipstories Lipstick $8.00

Sephora Collection Foot Mask $5.00

One last recommendation:

I was quite surprised at how much I ended up liking the Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow palettes, $27. I had purchased the original Rose Gold palette and returned it because I found it to be of poor quality. It didn’t last until lunch time on my eyes! I took a chance and purchased both the Smoky and the Coral and I love them.  I think the price is reasonable for 9 shades and I like the compact size.

So what’s on your list to purchase?  I’d love to hear from you either here or on my corresponding Instagram post.

NEW Sephora Favorites Good as NUDE Lip Sampler Review and Swatches

Today at Sephora inside J.C. Penney I purchased this new Sephora Favorites Good As Nude Lip Sampler set for $28.

The set contains 1 full size product and 5 deluxe sized samples.

The full size product is the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in the shade Wifey which is described as a delicate pinkish nude. This product by itself is $20 at Sephora.

Next up is the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in the shade Whip which is described as a blushed beige.  The size is 0.07 oz which has a value of $6.72. This shade was included in the holiday lip set which is still available for $15.

Next up is the Nars Lipstick in the shade Orgasm which is described as a peachy pink with shimmer.  The size is 0.05 oz which has a value of $11.67.

Next up is the Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Exposed which is described as a rosy nude.  The size is 0.034 fl oz which has a value of $3.40.

Next up is the Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in the shade Sugar Sugar which is described as a peachy-pink nude with gold shimmer.  The size is 0.05 fl oz which has a value of $8.75.

And finally the BareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in the shade Bo$$ which is described as a dirty pink beige. The size is 0.06 fl oz which has a value of $10.

Here’s the swatches:

Unfortunately it was a rainy day here in Ohio and I was unable to use natural light for these swatches which is what I prefer.  It appears to me that these swatches are coming off just slightly more brown/yellow than they appear in real life.

The box claims this is a $72 value but I’m only calculating $60.54. I’m wondering if these samples are available elsewhere for a higher price and that is how they are calculating a higher value.  I searched the site and used the prices of the full size products to calculate values if minis were not available.  I still think its a good value for the contents and most of us know how often we use up lip products (rarely). I only had 2 shades of the items included (the Marc Jacobs and BareMinerals) so this was an easy choice for me to go for the set.  And who could pass up the cute glittery lip shaped box.

This set is only available in stores at J.C. Penney and is not available online or in Sephora stores.  There is a similar set available online which contains the same Tarte and Nars shades.

So what do you think of this set?  Is it on your list to purchase?  I’d love to hear from you either here or on my corresponding Instagram post.
