Refreshing my sale tips:

As you might already know, ULTA’s Fall 21 Days of Beauty event begins Sunday September 2, 2018. Today I’m sharing some of the items I recommend, already have, or plan to purchase during the sale.  But first let’s go over some tips:

  1. Daily Beauty Steals go live every morning at 1 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). To view the daily beauty steals go here for ULTA’s online calendar or here for my previous post of all the deals.  There will be online only offers and platinum perk deals for Platinum and Diamond members. Some times you can catch the days previous offers and the next days offers in the same order. This may be advantageous if you are trying to meet a free gift with purchase minimum.
  2. Platinum and Diamond members will get free shipping on the daily Beauty Steals plus any other items they add to their purchase. You must be signed in to see the discount reflected in cart. Tip: if you plan to purchase any of the weekly Beauty Deals from the ULTA Beauty Collection, wait until a day that you plan to purchase a Beauty Steal to get free shipping (and use those $5 off $15 codes from the freebie bags we’ve been receiving all year).
  3. Speaking of coupon codes, even if an item says its excluded, test it out in cart.  Sometimes the codes will work on Beauty Steals. This is more applicable to the Love Your Skin or Gorgeous Hair events but worth a mention here too.
  4. There is a limit of 2 per customer in regards to Beauty Steals.  In store this is enforced as 2 per product. Online it is enforced as 2 per shade. You may place multiple orders of 2 if you want to stock up on something (or at least this has been permitted in the past).
  5. All daily Beauty Steals are while supplies last and things will sell out, especially for the newer brands to ULTA.  In stores stock is usually very limited.  If you really want a product, plan to be there when the store opens or stay up late to secure your online order. I have had things I wanted sold out the next morning (and I’m an Eastern Time Zone early riser!) by 6 a.m.
  6. Every night starting on Saturday September 1, usually around 9 p.m. EDT I will post the next day’s deal on my Instagram account along with any available freebies or relevant tips. I do this as a reminder of what the next day’s deal will be so you can plan to either stay up or make it to the store in the morning. There’s always a chance a new freebie or offer will come up the next morning, but you have to decide what is more important, getting the item or getting a freebie.  I have some items I am not sure I want to purchase but could be swayed by an awesome freebie (you know how that goes). I will also post recommendations or my experience with the product and reference any swatches that I’ve done.

See my previous post for an outline of all of the daily beauty steals and hot buys for the event.

Week 2 (9/9-9/15)

September 9 — I’ve used the Bareminerals Mineral Veil for years and highly recommend it as a finishing powder. It blurs and blends everything together and gets rid of any “makeup-y” look. My favorite is the Hydrating Mineral Veil.  I recently spotted many of the Mac Girl palettes at my local Cosmetics Company Store (Estee Lauder outlet) for less than this price. I don’t own any of these but I think they are a good value and seem to be of good quality (based on swatches). I would purchase one if I wasn’t trying to decrease the amount of palettes I’m purchasing. It Brushes and Exuviance skin care will also be on sale. I don’t have enough experience with either of those to give recommendations.

IMG_0305.JPG

September 10 — The only product I’ve used from this day’s deals is the Estee Lauder DayWear moisturizer. This is another product that I have used many times over and really enjoy. If I didn’t already own a full size, I would purchase one.

September 11 — I own a few shades of the Buxom Plumpline Lip Liners and love them! The price for these is great. I like to use 2 shades together to create a more dimensional look. I also like to top these with a gloss and blend with the brush included on the end of the liner.

IMG_0306

September 12 — I’ve not had much experience with LORAC mascaras but I have been using this one I got in a free gift previously. One end is a blue-tinted primer and one end is mascara. I like it but I prefer other mascaras more. Good news is this one doesn’t seem to smudge on me.

IMG_0308

September 13 — My favorite Clarisonic brush head is the Radiance brush head. This is a great time to stock up on these since they don’t expire! I’ve been using the Smashbox Pore Minimizing primer which is similar to Benefit PoreFessional (on sale next week) but thicker and doesn’t cause my makeup to slide off my face.  If you have issues with pores, I’d recommend giving it a try.

September 14 — I have one of the Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks. I love the shape of the applicator which sort of hugs your lips for a more precise application. If you love liquid lips sticks and haven’t tried these, I’d go for it! The It Cosmetics Brow Power gets good reviews but I have had so many issues with broken products I can’t recommend it. I’ve had numerous products were the stick of the product breaks off from the packaging and then I have to hold it in there to use it.  Too much trouble in my opinion.

IMG_0309.JPG

September 15 — Pick of the day is the CoverFX Setting Powder.  I recently purchased this from the brand’s website. I also had this deluxe sample from a Sephora Play box.  I enjoy this powder. It sets my makeup and look cakey or feel dry.  I think this one will go fast so grab one quickly.

Come back next weekend to see my picks and reviews of week 3 of ULTA’s 21 days of Beauty. So what’s on your list to purchase?  I’d love to hear from you either here or on my corresponding Instagram post.

Thanks for reading.

WEEK 1 (9/2-9/8)

September 2 — I think a lot of us have stocked up on freebies of the Too Face Hangoverx Primer.  I have not tried the Peter Thomas Roth Serum, but I’m wondering how that compares to the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Serum. I consider the DE product one of my staples and this PTR would be less costly.  I have tried the Peter Thomas Roth Cloud Cream Cleanser.  It reminds me of the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser in texture but my skin does feel slightly more dry after using the PTR.  Not dry enough to stop using it, but just an observation I’ve made.  The Lime Crime Palettes are an Online Only deal.  I’m really tempted to order one (or all of these) but I don’t need any more eyeshadow palettes (or makeup in general). If you were planning to purchase these, this would be the best time I think.

September 3 — I have not tried the new Proactiv System. I have sampled the Lancome Eye Balm (online only, platinum perk) and remember not liking it because it seemed to sit on top of the skin and not sink in.  I have use the Philosophy Time in a Bottle Serum (online only) in the past and enjoyed it. I purchase this bottle for half off from Macys, but I didn’t realize it contained Vitamin C and I’ve since been afraid to use it. My skin reacts badly to Vitamin C but I don’t recall having a bad reaction to this.  I will bravely test it out again. But if you don’t have issues with Vitamin C, I’d recommend this serum. I love the Stila Smudge sticks. These are some of my favorite eyeliners. I prefer a pencil form. I own about 30 of these but most of the shades I have ULTA doesn’t carry.  I think Damsel is the perfect dark brown. Once set, these won’t budge.  I’d skip Purple Tang and Bluefin unless the shimmer effect appeals to you.

September 4 — I have not tried the Butter London Lip Glaze, Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser or Eyeko Mascaras. The Becca Liquid Shimmering Skin Perfectors are a product I should use more.  I just forget to.  I think these are great for mixing into foundations or moisturizers for an all over glow. Or using for highlight on top of foundation and layer with corresponding powder products. If I didn’t own these already, I would purchase Moonstone.

September 5 — I have not tried the Kopari Oil (online only) or the Juice Beauty primer (online only). I have used the Skyn Iceland eye gels. They feel good on, but I don’t really see any results from them. I’d save for the Patchology gels coming up later in the event.  Benefit Hoola Bronzer is a makeup classic. I think the Hoola Lite would work for only the fairest skin tones. If I didn’t already own these bronzers I would purchase because its a great price and they will last you a long time.

September 6 — I will be purchasing a couple of the Beautyblender cleanser solids. These are my favorite to clean sponges and work well for brushes too. I don’t dread cleansing my makeup tools as much when I have this on hand. I have not tried the PÜR masks (online only).I like the Murad moisturizer but don’t like it more than other things I already own.

September 7 — Unfortunately Lancome mascaras don’t work for me. I have a sample packet of the Perricone Cold Plasma+ I need to try before I can give any recommendation but I have heard from lots of people that its a good product line.  No opinion on the Clinique powder (online only). Love the brand but I think there are better powders out there now.

September 8 — If you like a highly reflective highlight, I would recommend purchasing an Ofra highlighter (online only). The 2 shades I have are Pillow Talk and Rodeo Drive. I also recommend the Purity mask. It’s a gritty clay mask that isn’t harsh or drying. I have not tried the Anastasia Brow Definer.

Come back next weekend to see my picks and reviews of week 2 of ULTA’s 21 days of Beauty. So what’s on your list to purchase?  I’d love to hear from you either here or on my corresponding Instagram post.

NEW Sephora Favorites Good as NUDE Lip Sampler Review and Swatches

Today at Sephora inside J.C. Penney I purchased this new Sephora Favorites Good As Nude Lip Sampler set for $28.

IMG_0702

The set contains 1 full size product and 5 deluxe sized samples.

IMG_0709

The full size product is the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in the shade Wifey which is described as a delicate pinkish nude. This product by itself is $20 at Sephora.

IMG_0703

Next up is the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in the shade Whip which is described as a blushed beige.  The size is 0.07 oz which has a value of $6.72. This shade was included in the holiday lip set which is still available for $15.

IMG_0704

Next up is the Nars Lipstick in the shade Orgasm which is described as a peachy pink with shimmer.  The size is 0.05 oz which has a value of $11.67.

IMG_0705

Next up is the Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Exposed which is described as a rosy nude.  The size is 0.034 fl oz which has a value of $3.40.

IMG_0706

Next up is the Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in the shade Sugar Sugar which is described as a peachy-pink nude with gold shimmer.  The size is 0.05 fl oz which has a value of $8.75.

IMG_0707

And finally the BareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in the shade Bo$$ which is described as a dirty pink beige. The size is 0.06 fl oz which has a value of $10.

IMG_0708

Here’s the swatches:

IMG_0711IMG_0712

Unfortunately it was a rainy day here in Ohio and I was unable to use natural light for these swatches which is what I prefer.  It appears to me that these swatches are coming off just slightly more brown/yellow than they appear in real life.

The box claims this is a $72 value but I’m only calculating $60.54. I’m wondering if these samples are available elsewhere for a higher price and that is how they are calculating a higher value.  I searched the site and used the prices of the full size products to calculate values if minis were not available.  I still think its a good value for the contents and most of us know how often we use up lip products (rarely). I only had 2 shades of the items included (the Marc Jacobs and BareMinerals) so this was an easy choice for me to go for the set.  And who could pass up the cute glittery lip shaped box.

This set is only available in stores at J.C. Penney and is not available online or in Sephora stores.  There is a similar set available online which contains the same Tarte and Nars shades.

So what do you think of this set?  Is it on your list to purchase?  I’d love to hear from you either here or on my corresponding Instagram post.

Thanks for reading.
